Last year, Carol started as project delivery director at Randstad Digital Belgium. By that point, she had already had quite a challenging career in IT, but she felt that it was time for something new.
Thanks to reviews on LinkedIn and Glassdoor, she knew that this company focuses a lot on retention. Now that she’s working here, she also sees that we invest in equality: being a woman in a man’s world, that’s a big plus for her!
a focus on retention…
“Before I applied for this job, I already knew that this company likes to focus on retention”, Carol tells us. “For me, that’s a plus, because it means your employer really cares about the wellbeing of their employees.”
“Of course, this also implies that people are just a little bit more scared of change”, she laughs. “I was hired to help write the next chapter of a growing organization, and the people that have worked here for quite a while sometimes need a bit more encouragement in this department. Change can be scary, and it’s up to me to convince people that it’s also positive.”
“Luckily, I like a challenge. I’ve been working in IT for a long time, when I just started out in this sector everything was still a bit more rock ‘n roll, definitely for women… ;-)”
… and on equality.
Carol: “Another thing that was immediately clear to me when I started at Randstad Digital: everyone is treated equally here. Young or old, man or woman - if you do your best and are open to new opportunities, you’ll get a fair shot.”
“That’s great, because that’s not always the case. Although I must say, I’ve seen a positive transformation in the last couple of years. And rightfully so: it’s about time we stop making a distinction between men and women and start looking at someone’s capabilities.”
“Women, and especially young women, have to be bold and claim their place”, Carol continues. “I know it’s still a bit of a hassle sometimes, especially when a distinction is being made between boys and girls even at a young age. But I’d like to say to all the women around me: aim for the sky! Don’t be afraid to show your talents and go for first place.”
she goes ICT.
“Randstad Digital gave me the opportunity to be one of the faces of our sponsorship campaign for She goes ICT - a networking event putting women in IT and other STEM fields in the picture.”
“I’m proud of that, because having a master in mathematics, I’ve always worked in a male dominated field. Personally, I’ve never felt discriminated against, but I know that this type of discrimination still exists and that’s fundamentally wrong.”
Carol continues: “Men and women have the same intellectual capabilities, and at Randstad Digital this is highlighted in a healthy way. I think that’s an important example to set: equal opportunities for everyone!”

today has to be better than yesterday.
Carol: “My career thus far has been great, so now I mainly want to focus on a job that I truly love and makes me feel like I have a real impact.”
“My motto is: today always has to be better than yesterday. That’s something I can achieve by stimulating young people to grow.”
“Of course, this also requires strong leadership, and that’s one of my focus points right now. By giving young people the opportunities they need and teaching them the right skills, we can have an even bigger impact for our clients. Seems to me like that’s a great goal to be working towards!”
